Challenge
Build a real financial platform on a startup budget, in a market that takes itself very seriously and mostly deserves a nudge.
Broka started life as BrokerBrain, a bespoke system for sourcing loans from a network of lenders. Turning that first concept into something brokers would actually run their pipeline on, with live lender data, broker workflows, and enquiries flowing through it, was no small job.
But the build was only half of it. Commercial finance is a slow, formal, faintly beige industry. Getting brokers to switch platforms is hard. Getting lenders to keep their product data current is harder. And getting anyone in that world to pay attention to a new name, especially one called BrokerBrain, was going to take more than another polite fintech launch.
Goal
Rename it, rebrand it, and give it a voice the industry couldn't ignore. Then build the systems to keep both sides of the marketplace engaged.
We rebranded BrokerBrain to Broka and rebuilt the identity from the ground up. Cleaner, sharper, and deliberately tongue in cheek. The tone was the strategy. An old fashioned industry doesn’t need another serious voice, it needs one that’s confident enough to have a bit of fun and still be trusted with the numbers.
From there we built the growth engine around the platform:
A product that punches above its weight, lender network, broker enquiry flow, and the case study receipts, all in one system.
Broker growth and education, social content, direct email outreach, and a monthly newsletter to keep brokers active and show them how to get more out of the platform. The newsletter was eventually automated end to end with a custom app.
Lender activation, done properly, a bespoke AI outreach system that reads every lender’s product data, spots what’s gone stale, and nudges them by email and WhatsApp to update their products and respond to broker enquiries.
A voice with a bit of edge, tongue in cheek where the industry is stiff, sharp where it counts, never at the expense of trust.
Result
£300m in enquiries every month. 180 active brokers, 205 active lenders, and official NACFB recognition, in eighteen months.
The rebrand landed. Brokers brought other brokers. Lenders started responding faster because the AI outreach kept them honest, and the ones that engaged got more enquiries, which pulled the rest in behind them. The newsletter and social presence turned Broka into a name people in the industry actually mention, which is not a small thing in commercial finance.
The NACFB, the trade body for commercial finance brokers, brought Broka on as an official partner. That’s the industry’s way of saying this is real.
None of it required a paid growth budget. The platform, the voice, and the systems did the work.
